That brown sludge you are throwing away is a silver compound.
Dry it and take to a scrap merchant and get some money for it.
Or with a bit more kitchen sink chemistry you could turn it back
into silver chloride. You will also be doing your local sewage
facility a favour as silver is toxic to the bacteria they rely
on.
