Re: [ATM] Silvering Problems
Hi Attila,
My solution goes brown, but never clears up!! When I dump the solution
down the sinks its mud brown!
I am silvering in a large basin maybe 2-3" greater than the mirror. I
keep in it filled with water just past the mirror face (I silver face
up) so the mirror does not dry out. When I have the silvering solution
ready, I pour the solution into the basin without removing the water I
already had in the basin. Next I pour the reducing agent and then when
the solution goes black, I start agitation by rocking the basin
vigorously. I keep a watch for the formation of any flakes on the
surface, and when I see any I take the mirror out and rinse it with
water followed by isopropyl alcohol.
Can you comment on the procedure.
Regards,
Alfredo

Hello Alfredo,
Yes! You have to divide your solution. When if you look the solution
and its starts to turn from brown to clear and some bunch of brown
clusters starts to appear. In that moment you have to pour out the
solution and immediatlelly apply new one.But during the process you
have to whip gently the surface by a cottont bunch! to remove the most
part of the haze! And if all the solution is off. Than keep the
surface wet and apply the cleaning process.
