Hi Alfredo,
Well I do a lot of silvering, have experience enough. But sometimes the
layer is dull for me too. but mostly it is shiny.15 gramms seems to me
enough. Normally I use sugar solvent for reducing. Clean the mirror is
essencial before silvering, othervise you will whip out the silver
during the process. I use a special agent named methil-chlorid, for
the preliminary cleaning and for the finishing too.
I is essencial you should pour your silvering solution to the
mirror in many times. For example if you have 0.5 liter solution
you have to apply it in 0.7-1 dl dose. After the second dose you
have to whipe gently the surface by a bunch of cotton, while the
silver is subsiding. And you have to do it through the process.
Always keep the surface wet. And if it is finished you have to
clean the deposit by a mixture of water,methil-chlorid, washer
solution, and a little amount of rouge. This will remove the haze
from your silver. And if you wash the surface by water, it will be
ran away from the silver. And only some drops remains there.
That's why you need a thick coating and a wery clean surface for
the good adhesion. Temperature 24 celsius is more than enough for
the process. It is a messy job!
