Re: [ATM] Identify Large Schneider Lens?
It looks like there might be a couple of inches of effective aperture
there. Combined with f/5.6, that gives a focal length of 10 - 12
inches. How much object image distance would that give? Could you use
this as a relay lens, perhaps in an oblique angle "folded" Newtonian?
Since it is designed for near object distances, it would have the right
type of correction for the job. If you could get a couple of extra feet
toward the ground end of a scope without having to enlarge the diagonal
a huge amount, it could make the eyepiece position pretty nice on a
moderately large "folded" Newt.
Since it is already in a mount with threads, perhaps you could do a
perforated Newt, folding straight back with the lens mounted on the
baffle tube to transfer the image. Again, it would keep the secondary
size down compared to an ordinary straight back folded Newt where the
secondary is 50+%. This way would probably still have a rather large
secondary, but it might be fine for photographic use.
