I concur but for possibly different reasons: it is a constant battle
for me
to minimize the number of "inboxes" in my life. (This has nothing to do
with bandwidth as I have plenty of that.) So, I would hope to see that
any new "forum" media would continue to have a bidirectional
e-mail-to-forum gateway.

Also, Peter Nance wrote in reference to web forums

Actually, spam is a very serious problem for web forums. Ditto for
wiki's, blogs, instant messaging, text messaging (SMS/MMS), and,
believe it or not, it's an emerging problem for voice mail vendors.
It's all a matter of how well locally managed the medium is as to how
much
of a problem it is. [To some extent: Internet porn has made the Turing
test obsolete and for a couple of years now, spammers have geen giving
free porn in exchange for typing in those hard to read CAPTCHA (tm)
strings just so the spammers in a whack-a-mole fashion can get a new
account in the blog/wiki/whatever to spread more spam from.]
The upshot is that any electronic forum medium you care to name
has problem with spams. YMMV. [Okay, okay, you might be okay with
a BBS as long as you don't gateway e-mail to it. Ditto for APRS ;-]

Regards,
Dan
