The point is it's not an urban legend.
I personally don't mind if the list change to a forum format, but if
there's an option to choose forum or mailing list, I will choose mailing
list.

We all pay to phone companies and to ISP.
What is your point. Nobody gets it free.
My point is that broadband today is cheaper than narrowband dial up was
ever before.
And I am not living in developed western country.
Arguing on the base of what was before is not realistic approach to the
discussion of advancing the list technologies.
