Unless your mirror is very thin, there is no problems with the
glass in grinding the back and sides.  Your biggest problem will
be keeping the grit off of the optical surface so that it doesn't
put scratches on the surface.  I'd coat the optical surface with
pitch (don't use the pitch afterwords for polishing as it will
have some grit in it) and then remove later by the freezing
technique.
