[ATM] Regrinding edge and back

Hi All,
 
I've got a 12.5" F4,7 mirror whose edge and back are very rough ground.
I think this is causing problems in that the cells back and edge support
do not permit the mirror to shift. What problems could I encounter of
fining the back and edges with 800 carbo? Could it alter the figure?
Would a better alternative be somehow gluing very thin pads of Teflon to
the mirror where it's supported?
