Re: [ATM] ATM: $1 wager to anyone on this list.

<< Ah good. I think I would have to at least inspect very
carefully. I am paranoid about grade changes. Shower, change
clothes, have haircut and manicure, bath the cat, redecorate the
mirror making room, get the hasmat team in, etc. Well, not
quite, but I do at least keep the tubs of coarse grain below the
tubs of fine grain. >>

Gee, Richard, there must be something wrong with me! I have ground
several mirrors at the same stand through all of the grits. The only
precaution I take at grit-changeover, other than scrubbing the tool and
catch pan, is a thorough vacuuming with my shop-size, roll around vac.
I've never had a scratch, or other similar problem. AAMOF......I polish
and figure at that stand too!!! O.K....I wash the top part of the stand
(the bottom is a barrel, half full of water) and vacuum everything in
sight. I also have a separate catch pan for that phase.

I tried David's waxing technique many years ago. It helps reduce the
cleaning time between grits. The secret, as I was told, is to use a
hard wax. Candle wax and the parafin sold as sealing wax are on the
soft side. You have to find some "hard" parafin....the stuff that takes
a good fingernail to scratch. Some hobby stores have it for making
carved figures for casting molds.
