I don't think that most people would need to buy a gallon. Mine was 1oz
bottle that sells for $8. I haven't tried Dr. Sherrod's formula. Purosol did
work well for me YMMV. I liked the fact that it neutralizes static surface
charge after cleaning. IMO the best optics cleaner before, I tried Purosol,
was USP collodian. But removing all the solidified collodian from small
optics is not always easy. Also flammable ether is a component of collodian
as is flammable isopropyl alcohol is part of Dr. Sherrod's formula.
Flammable solvents should be a consideration when working indoors where
there might be pilot lights. I mentioned Purosol as a FYI. It worked for me
YMMV.
