Jonathan,
some day I want to built a derotator for my 14" dobsonian telescope
too.
Because I want to use only simple tools it should be a simple
construction.
The main part of my derotator will be a large toothed wheel made from
aluminum sheet material.
A stepper with a threaded rod will rotate the disk (worm and wheel
gear).
The disk will rotate around a large ball bearing and have additional
support near its edges from three small bearings.
I have a picture of my idea at:

Will this design work and be stable enough ?
Any comments or improvements are welcome.
If you want to add/change in the drawing, the original PPT file is also
there:

Regards,
Martin Cibulski
