Perhaps looking at a modern semiconductor device similar to the EL34 pentode
( http://www.r-type.org/static/el34.htm ) used in most of the better audio
amplifiers, the MOSFET

Figure (A), shows the transconductance, Gm, which is pretty linear. I still
have an excellent Siliconix design audio amplifier that used 2N6658 MOSFETs
. This amplifier used very little negative feedback and like the better
vacuum tube amplifiers, reproduced the subtle nuances of music which are
lost with amplifiers with high amounts of negative feedback. For an audio
amp it also has an 800Khz BW.
