[ATM] Worm mounting

Hi,
I have currently finishing a large gem and am at the point of mounting the
worms. I'm trying to decide whether to mount the worms in a fixed (but
adjustable) mount, or on a carrier that is spring loaded to minimize
backlash. I can easily do either as the worms are mounted in solid aluminium
carriers with tapered roller bearings. Any advantages/disadvantages to
either method??? Which is likely to give the truest tracking for ccd
imaging?

The worms are 1 " diameter stainless steel and will be mating with 7"
phosphor bronze gears fitted with stainless steel clutches both with true
forms.
