[ATM] ATM- GEM declination clutch

Hi, I have a Byers 6 inch gear with the worm I would like to implement on
the Dec axis
of an old GEM. The GEM has a fair amount of moment arm with a 6 foot
reflector and a
3 foot refractor piggybacked. Total mass on the axis (w/counter weights,
etc) about 80-85 lbs.
This gear has a ~5 inch central hole and so would need to be attached to
something in
order to work in this application.

The archives are loaded with suggestions of clutch materials, just not sure
of how stiff the
plates need to be while driving the dec axis.

Could I make a drive with maybe a ~ 6 inch flat HDPE cutting board or
Masonite disk
pressed between either wood or Aluminum disks of the same size? These
materials are available,
probably already under the workbench, and I have a 10 x 14 wood turning
lathe and a router.
