While I love a good Gates bashing about as much as I think he
deserves it, that is not the reason I put the note out there.
Spooky, though. Using the definition I gave for H, the
value for the C-line is -1.03165364, the value for the
F'-line is 1.02750707 and the value for the g-line is
2.06917981; this makes the whole system quite close to
{-1,0,1,2} in value for {C,e,F',g}. Adding a constant
multiplier to the definition would allow, say, the C
and F' values to be precisely -1 and 1, respectively.
That would, though, move the singularity down to about
143 nm. This is probably more in line with CaF2 (94 nm),
but may make the approximation worse for "normal" glasses.
