An alternative to to using html for people how don't have any of the 
Microsoft Office software is an open source program called OpenOffice.  
It is available at
http://www.openoffice.org/
  Seems to work with almost all of the microsoft files I have tried so 
far.  I would suggest the 1.1.4 version and not the beta 2.0  unless you 
are familiar with beta testing software.
