RE: [ATM] convex secondary
I have a few 12.5" and two or three 8" of these Corning blanks. They
are a nice golden color. You can sure see swirls inside the glass. I haven't
tried to test through the glass so I can't be sure, but I wouldn't think
that reliable tests could be done through the glass.
As for the corning blanks I have I can't be sure but I think they
are better than the white Pyrex. I haven't seen enough examples and compared
side by side at the same time. But, it seems to me that I saw less shape
change on the test stand during cool down. Maybe it was just better
annealed. I don't like the tapered side but it is not a big deal.

Never saw saucepans that had rims that would mate up
to those on the Pyrex disks... We're talking of even
OLDER Corning disks that had an annular ring around
the backside. They looked like they were done in molds
from Pyrex glass that was "pulled" from a dollop while
in a "taffee like state" , plopped into the mold and
heated just enough to get the topside of the glass
level with the mold top. The top side had rolled
(tensioned) edges, the bottom had the rim. The sides
were tapered.
