[ATM] The Challange and the limit
To all on the list,
The making of a "thin" ,... "light"...Telescope mirror has been done...
You know who you are...
Rookies on this list want very much to achieve this pinacle..... But they
do not want to pay the
"Dues" that come with getting to the end of the figureing road.. We must all
remember whether
you are a novice or an experienced mirror maker .. the end result is an
image that is satisfactory
to your eye.. If you have seen images through your friend's big scopes, and
you feel that your
creation is as good or better.. good for you... Newbies should create
smaller diameters first
and move on to larger ones after. Hell, this has been echoed on this list
again and again...But
that's why this list exsist's.... Anyone out there thinking that you are
going full throttle, and
make a 3 meter relector on your first try...Call a few elders on this
list... They will probably want
to know how in the hell you got a chunck of glass that big...
Do not ever give up, get in contact with an experienced
mirror maker and he will
be sure to head you in another direction... It may not be the right one
but.. remember he has
been there before.. Take all information and apply, again, again, and
again.. Most of the time
"You "are making the mistakes, not the glass, not the pitch lap, not the
temperature... just some
of the little things that need to be adhered to in this primitive push and
pull process..
All of these explainations has been echoed on this list over and over,
and they will be as long
as a rookie ATM'er has a Question or a dream, or a stupid statement...
Experience loves to teach,
and guide.. if not you are a Politician, God help you.. Russ Jocoy
