Well, this cost can be the stopper. Currently, you can't get the
mirror piece by piece. hmm..... Someone told me once that he would
love to have a scope like mine but his wife wouldn't let him spend the
money. I told him the great thing about building your own was you
sneak it in piece by piece and she won't know whats happening until it
is too late. But, the mirror, currently, is still a one time large
investment for larger scopes. So, segment the mirror or the cost of
the mirror when doing your sneaking. hmmmm....
ATM World Savings and Loan?
When Bill Prewitt started his 30 my desire turned to large binocs. It
is nice sometimes to have observing partners. We don't both need to
set up twin 30's and I'm not going to try and go larger. Well, not
until he is done. ;-)
Where practical, have community scopes? When our local club was
started they had people lined up to use the 16 inch cass and 8 inch
refractor. Home brews both. Is the real challenge to change the mind
set that we all need our own personal 40 inch scope? Commercial scopes
changed the mind set. Maybe not for the best? Ken
