The younger set no longer includes me either, but I have to admit I am
sometimes just as guilty. Like the way I replied to your message before
reading it all, so that my reply is broken into two parts.
I think that people attracted to amateur astronomy, and, especially to
telescope building are not likely to be the most impatient ones. Even
those that start mirror making on an impulse, and don't read up on it
first, usually come to wish they had a good book sometime around the
figuring and testing stage, if not before.
I agree that book writing is hard and long work, at least if you intend
to make a good book. I suspect that whoever tackles the assignment had
better plan on not getting rich off of it. The big hope would be that
the book sells well enough to clear the publishing cost and make some
profit, so that the publisher isn't scared off future atm books.
