You have covered a lot of points to consider where testing is done.
More variables than you might imagine. Test more when you have more to lose.

The same goes for installing ATM programs. I sometimes save and unzip a file
to my ATM folder. The save files become buried and it takes an effort to
locate them. Just as I did with your Frontsix. Works great now that I've had
to face what was my doing.

well, some testing to be sure, then back to figuring!
