[ATM] 10"f/6 mirror cell .... side supports idea !
Another thought I had on side supports ....
For my 10" f/6 mirror, I was going to support it on 6-point
flotation with support pads of teflon or cork.
For side support, I would squirt blobs of RTV in from the side, as
is done in Richard Berry's design. I've done this before on a mirror which
was also RTV'ed down .... no flotation.
Thus, the RTV would only be providing lateral centering function.
The mirror would still "float" on the support pads. This has the
advantage of being easier to remove.
I was wondering if this makes sense or if it couldcould cause trouble. If the
bottom support pads shifted or contracted away from the mirror for any reason, the mirror would essentially be held in suspension by the side supports.
Anyone see this as a real possibility/problem?
Rob
