I personally started this way and find it easier to help folks that
have done this prep work. Also, "justifying" is ok to describe it to
other folks that can't accept you just WANT TO. ;-)

Newtonian is a great 'beginner' scope. It also gives you something
decent to use while working on the more complex desgin. This helps
with the patience factor required for the more ambitious project.
