It's the commonly agreed method over on the model engineers'
list. Soak the work in hot saturated Aluminium Hydrogen Sulphate
aka Alum in some countries. It takes a while but doesn't mark
the work too much and doesn't change tolerances. Be aware that
there are different Alum's and different definitions of which
Alum is which in different countries. Also check the health and
safety information on the stuff - it's your risk, etc.

My preferred method (given that I have a Mill) is to machine it
out oversize with a carbide end mill and then plug and re-drill
and tap.
