Two more uncertainties:

Do the glass mosaic tiles have bubbles inside? These could trap grains of
grit. If you get scratches due to this, you could use tiles from Winckelmans
that are used e.g. in swimming pools. You can get these in any
bathroom/kitchen/tile shop. See their website for available types

The plaster for walls is quite soft, and may flake off when used in
prolonged wet cicumstances. Grinding doesn't take so much time, but if you
still get problems with this for the next tool it may be better to use
pouring or molding plaster, used for making statues. Examples available in
building markets are Beamix 230 or 210, but you could also look in art
supply stores or dentist supplies (e.g.  http://www.zwolsmangips.nl/)
