Re: [ATM] Some pictures of the 16' and tools

That backer tool is actually a ceramic mirror blank. It is 21 inches,
more or less, being very irregular at the edge. I ground it to an F4
curve and normally it would be glazed and the glaze would be polished and
figured. I decided to try a different approach so I am fusing a piece of
1/8th inch thick pyrex to the front. That will happen in a week or so.
The curve was very close to the curve on the 16, so I pressed it into
service as a backer while I try and figure the thin glass.

The funny looking hexagonal thingies are holes. The ceramic has an
average thickness of 3/4 inch, but the honey comb back allows a 2 inch
thickness overall. Stiffens it up. Mark Yonkers did the design work. I
think he studied Palomar quite a bit while he was doing it.

I have used alot of things for pad, but never I/O carpet. The towel seems
to work well and protects the ceramic from spills.
