I've used ordinary hand soap as a lubricant for years for tapping both
Stainless Steel and Aluminum. Works fine, even with very small threads.
Haven't broken a tap since the first time. Rub the tap threads across the
bar of damp hand soap to lubricate. Tap by twisting about a half a turn
forward until it tightens up, and then a quarter turn back (or so)until it
releases.-- Repeat until done.
