I did up a little spindle for small stuff work but it does handle up to a 6"
piece of glass.
It really is nice not to have to push the glass back and forth to do the
grinding but rather just lay your hands on the glass and press to do the
work.
I watched a guy at Stellafane one year do a 8" mirror in about an hour on a
machine that he brought in for the purpose.  It had a large (about 3'
diameter) iron wheel at the ROC of the mirror that he wanted to do.  Most of
his time was spent cleaning the wheel of each grit but the whole process was
really fast.
