RE: [ATM] 4.5" mirror

Have you removed the mirror and inspected it?

I purchased a Meade 5" scope (2nd hand) a few years ago. I purchased it
thinking the worse thing would be I would have a mirror to resurface or
possibly regrind or polish. The view was crap (nothing recognizeable). When
I removed the apparent 3/4" thickness mirror it turned out to be two 1/16 "
thick pieces of window pane glued together with unevenly placed and spaced
thick globs of what appeared to be wall panel adhesive, somewhat flexible..
That mirror had never done anything decent even for the first owner and was
not worth to time it took me to dump it in the trash. And it cost someone
several hundreds of dollars...Everything in the optics train was horrid, but
it was impressive to look at just not to look through...

The point is, at a minimum, you will likely end up replaceing the mirror,
cell, and the secondary.

University Optic sells completed mirrors, etc. .
