Re: [ATM] Open Question Concerning Pitch Laps

Brian,

>I'm embarrassed to ask such simple questions but I just don't know?

Asking question, simple or not, must not be embarrassing.
This is what the list is for. Many "simple" questions are repeated
over and over because no good answer was given or published at any
time. For example the central facet dogma was rarely supported
by anything more conclusive than more or less educated guessing.
Required controlled experiment will be very boring and lengthy and,
to my knowledge, was never performed.
In one manual for machine (!) polishing there is a statement:
" It is important that the pitch lap be symmetrical about its center.
A lap that is not symmetrical will not spin correctly when polishing
and will drag across the glass causing zones and grooves."
If central facet positioning was proved "without reasonable doubt"
to be important, it is the right time to mention the location of this proof.
