Should I make the drawtube PCV or Aluminium,
or any other ideas?
My pinion for moving the drawtube up and down will
be a 6mm (OD) aluminium tube but I need to coat it
in something to give it some friction against the drawtube.

If sufficient pressure is applied to the pinion, it shouldn't be necessary
coat it with anything. A 6mm steel rod would be preferrable to an aluminum
tube, which is likely
to bend under the pressure.
I've made two Crayford focusers and used aluminum for the drawtube on both.
On one, I used two teflon rods for the bearings, on the other, I used four
small roller bearings. Both provide smooth motion.
