I find that grinding machines are VERY INNEFICIENT at
removing large amounts of glass. They are great at
making large amounts of highly repetitive movements as
in fine grinding and polishing.

It takes a LOT of localized agressive pressure to dig
that hole. 5 pounds is not enough... By hand, I put
most of my 240 pounds into the task. Even then it's a
lot of work. I modified my grinding machine to use
diamond wheels for generating the basic curves and
unless it's small flat curve, that's the way I do it.
