[ATM] Newport Glass reputable?
I bought my current project blank from them and it was very well
done. It was fine annealed, blanchard ground and the curve was
pregenerated. Depending on your personal standards, your budget, the
aperture and the investment you are making, you might skip the fine
annealing. Blanchard ground backs are a must, especially on thin
blanks. And, Pre Generated Curves are valuable too.
I was amazed at the speed with which I was able to get to a polished
surface and start figuring. If you calculate the value of your time,
and how little extra it costs to buy the blank with a PG curve,
you'll likely agree. I believe pregenerated curves are a must.
Newport did a fine job. Turn around time was modest. Others in my
circle of friends buy lots of glass, some are big ones (24") and they
all like Newport.
Mine was perfect and remarkably free of floating imbedments in spite
of its size.
Communications with them is sometimes dificult but they do deliver on
their promises.
