Re: [ATM] reducing mirror weight by sandblasting

Dan,

>I'd like to simulate the mirror with FEA software

Do you have one (FEA SW), or have access to it.
Do you know how to use it
or do you have somebody to teach you?

Although there are some FEA based programs
for ATM ( PLOP from Lewis and FLEX from Adler),
as far as I know they are available only as a canned
tools. It seems that in the moment there is nobody
among us (ATM) fluent in FEA and able (willing) to share
the basic knowledge at the ATM limited level with us.
Perhaps this is even impossible because it requires
background and practice nonspecialists do not have.

Instead of sandblasting the blank you may consider
ribbed (or posted) blanks as means to decrease weight without
much compromising stiffness .
