[ATM] Sidereal Time and RA circles

Ok guys

I apologize for being a little off topic.

I'm wanting to leanr how to use my RA circle with the
sidereal method.

I know the equation is ST - RA - HA.

I do the following:

1>I set my RA circle at starting position to what the
Sidereal time is

2> Calculate the HA by subtracting the RA of the
target from ST

This is where I get hung up:
Do I slew the scope the number of HA units west or
east depending on positive or negative or do I go to
the number I get?

Either way seems not to work. So I am wondering if
there is another piece of the puzzle missing.

What does seem work is if I subtract my GMT from the
local sidereal time and then slew my scope to the
target. This works for east, west, and south targets
but not north.

An yes I am familiar ewith the guide star method....
I'm wanting to learn this method...

Thanks!
-Rob
