RE: [ATM] quality suffering

I will agree with this wholeheartedly that quality and availability of ATM
supplies is declining. My first telescope was a "castrola" built in 1970.
For a mirror blank I used a glass caster cup intended to be placed under
the legs of furniture to prevent dents to the floor. It was made by
Anchor-Hocking glass works, and made a great little 3" spherical mirror.

Later, Anchor-Hocking modified the design of these items: they were
manufactured with deep grooves. I had a few of the old kind around that I
could use for mirrors, and the new grooved caster cups made good tools...
but it was a LOT OF WORK to grind the grooves out and make mirors out of
them.

Now you only find those items in an antique store. Caster cups are made of
plastic! I have no doubt that the master conspiracy (Priory of Sion,
Freemasons, Rosicrucians, Bilderbergers, Vatican, Swiss Zionist Bankers,
and all the other usual conspirators) got to the glass company and made
them stop producing an item of use to telescope makers.
