[ATM] ATM: Pictures galore-
Gentlemen, and Gentle Ladies-
For those of you who have expressed interest in more photographs of the big
latitude adjustable, one person portable fork equatorial mounting, I have
found a nice set of large pictures (no larger than the screen setting any
one is likely to be running at; less than 100 kb each, I think) that show
the undercarriage and polar axle latitude rocker well, with and without the
hollow polar axle, and close-ups of the bearings, and also photos of the
unit broken down into undercarriage and rocker. I have forgotten who I
promised to send more pictures to, so you guys remind me, please, and I will
start sending these other very nice pictures of the lower parts of the
mounting.
And I will try real hard to get those negatives packaged and off to George
so he can make a disc of all of the very detailed photodocumentation of all
the parts and the assembly steps and techniques. One person can also build
this mounting, in addition to being able to break it down and re-assemble
it, with no help. Let me know again you guys, who wants more pictures. And
for those of you who are really interested, and who don't have a breoadband
connection, I can simply make you a CD.
By following the construction techniques I will detail in the
catalogue/instructions, one may build this instrument to near machinists'
tolerances, as I did, except when I couldn't help having one part slip when
glueing, and ended up with a part displaced by about .025" (twenty five
thousandths of an inch). I winced when it happened; the glue tacked before I
could help it. I agonized over this single error for weeks, but finally got
over it. Otherwise, there were no errors in its geometric fidelity greater
than .015". (fifteen thousandths of an inch).
