[ATM] Question on my lap for 8" F6

It's the only thing that makes sense, and I have considered it, but the
numbers get larger as the carriage moves backwards. I turn the screw (not left
hand thread) that moves the carriage forward and backward, CCW to move the
carriage away from the mirror. This results in higher numbers on my dial indicator.
To confirm it, as I go from Inside focus moving away from the mirror, the
edge zone is the first to null, and the center is the last. I to expected a
huge hole in the middle of my mirror from what I was doing, but that is not what
I am seeing. Am I not seeing the forest for the trees?

I can't help but suspect that your tester actually shows larger
numbers closer to the mirror. I know you are in the presence of your tester
and I am not. But if you did the stroke as to hog the middle as you describe
and it "appears" to have made center's radius even longer, it would be well
worthwhile to consider. If it were me and my tester I would have to recheck
that I knew which way the numbers go when I move the tester forward and
back. It is very unlikely that the tangential strokes would not have made an
ugly hole in the center.
