Re: Are Aluminum Mirrors in reach of the ATMs?
Malcolm,
Today I purchased a book entitled "The Amateur Astronomer", copyright 2001
by Scientific American, which is a compilation of 30 projects from that
magazine, some of which date back to the early 1950's and
some as recently as a few years ago. Anyway, there is one article
in this book entitled "How to Grind, Polish and Test an Aluminum Telescope
Mirror" written by C. L. Stong in November 1963. Although
I haven't read it in detail yet, just skimming gives me the impression that
the author describes making a 3" f/9 mirror, and doesn't bother figuring.
You might want to check it out.
