ATM 16" f0.5 Spherical mirror
The thought of having a cass with a primary f/D of 7 or 11.5 isn't
something I can imagine as being near practical. The final f/D would be
very large.
They're possibly useful in making a gargantuan Gregorian variety
telescope with a 40"+ primary mirror. This would also be impractical,
but from a dreamer's point of view, perfect.
Now, would it be possible to put a lens or lens system in the optical
path to correct the spherical aberration, say, just before the light
enters the focuser of a Newt configuration? If so, a really nice
longer-focus Newt is possible and easy. Most of the work is already
done.
