Pitch flows at room temp. It may not go far but it is moving. A hot press
(which ends in a cold press) gets the major shaping of the pitch done and
it's always wise to insure that the lap matches the variations on the mirror
before starting. Once you get going with a long polishing session, you
really don't need to worry about a seperate cold press as you just stop the
machine for a moment and the warm surface of the pitch will do plenty of
forming. When you actually get to figuring, a press will always insure that
there aren't any little hollows that will mess up your figuring session.
