Re: ATM Worms will feed worms

It all depends upon the worm. The common periodic error that we notice is
from the errors on the face of the worm and wormwheel interface which
produces an error that is related to the worm's revolution. With the
wormgears normally used, the period usually ends up being approx. 4 minutes
in duration. The thing is that if the 30:1 wormgear in this case is
probably going to have a period a lot longer and larger in error due to the
ratio. If the gear drove something like a pin rubbing on a sector then
there would be a large reduction of the error, solely due to the reduction
itself.
After you finish with the relatively large worm rotation error, you then
have the error associated with the wormgear not being properly centered
(like all things in reality, perfection is impossible!) and thus you get a
cyclic error from this. On top of everything else, there's always random
errors from a bent or malformed tooth. Plenty of errors that are available
to the frustration of the user. The thing here is to sit down and find them
and fix them if possible and not worry too much about whether the thing is
possible as almost all things are possible, some are just more difficult
than others to get to the same spec.
