Frankly, what I would do is bring the binocs on the first trip, and get
in touch with a local astronomy club in Wisconsin. Many of the clubs
around here (NJ) have either small observatories or loaner scopes, and I
presume they do in Wisconsin as well. For the price of joining the club
you'd save buying a new scope and trekking it all over on the plane. An
added bonus is you might get a nice observing buddy when you're out
there.
