Re: ATM Barlow quality & odd list behavior

Dear fellow ATM'ers,

I feel a bit like Ken, as I had several messages for that thread
prepared that I erased, because I did not want to contribute even more
to the clutter.

I however want to remind all friends who feel that they are restricted
in expressing their opinion on this list, that the ATM list
constitutes a very unique opportunity to interchange experiences and
ideas of ATM!! on a very high level. In many cases on a professional
level. This means that questions asked by beginners or people with
less experience are answered by specialists who would normally not be
accessible to the former group. 
As it happens with many things we are getting used to, I feel that
some of us take the existence of our presently highly constructive
group too much for granted. If we leave the topic path too much, we
might find, that for many of us, the signal to noise ratio will become
too high, with the subsequent consequence that, especially the ones
who are less dependant on the basic information provided on this list,
will look for another discussion forum.

Thanks to the efforts of Mel this list has stayed fairly clutter-free
over the years and I think nobody should take offense, but rather
accept, if he sets the guide- and topic lines.

In that context and also referring to Dan Chaffee's previous mail I
would like to ask everybody again to make sure that they send their
email only as plain text and not as HTML!!

I recall that about three years ago, people used to contribute
financially to cover the list expenses. I would like to know, whether
it is still possible to do that?
