Re: ATM Aluminum instead of ebony star for side bearings




I've got aluminum flashing on the side bearings of my 10" scope and an old
14" dia aluminum hard disk as the azi bearing. It isn't as good as Ebony
Star, but it still works pretty well. You do occasionally have to scrape an
accumulation of aluminum crud off the teflon pads, but other than that it's
OK.
        I use formica or plastic in my scopes now, but the aluminum is
still pretty good. Haven't experienced stick and slip myself, holds the
scope steady, moves smoothly...
