ATM Battery charging

Hi,

About two years ago, a friend of mine was presented with several
"reconditioned" 12v batteries from large computer UPS's. He passed one
on to me, and I put it on a shelf...

Now that I'm testing Mel's tracking system (things are finally starting
to work!), I've hauled out the heavy thing. It had a 12v charge when I
got it, about a 10v charge last year (no use), and about 10v now.

My questions are:

*How do I test its ability to hold a charge?

*How low a voltage can I allow before recharging?

*How do I charge it? I hope to buy one of those little chargers for
deep-cycle marine bateries, the kind that you leave plugged into the
wall and the battery all the time when not in use (it switches itself
on when the charge is low...) Will one of these work, and is it worth
$25 for the charger?

Thanks
