I always rinsed the mirror thoroughly with room temperature water and
then wiped it off with a clean paper towel (Bounty works great).  Since
you're not concerned with protecting the coating, the paper towels when
used clean off the roll, did not scratch or affect the surface.  I wiped
gently, with only one stroke.  No spots.  Using room temperature water
helped shorten the stabilizing time as well.
