    I used a flat piece of 1/16" alluminum, 2" wide for channeling pitch. 
I heated the alum. blade with a propane torch. I tilt the lap while 
drawing and pressing the heated blade across  the lap,  that way the 
melted pitch is less likely to fill back in.    With a little practice, 
it works fine. The blade should be wiped clean of pitch with each pass. 
It takes me aprox. 30 min. (start to finish) on 8" lap.
