  I made a trial with a 4" metal cap grinding a 14"  blank with long
strokes, the result was that the desired saggitta was reached very fast,I
could say twice fast , but very irregular profile was created on the
surface. Anyway a second step with plaster/tile shall be done to go to
sphere and finer grits.
