ATM Journal
To all ATMA members:
In the Suiter and Zmek article in issue #11, three of the graphics on page 13
were drawn incorrectly. I brought this up earlier. However, Dick said that he
did not see the mention. We are planning to have an insert with the next issue
to provide corrected graphics that may be glued directly over the original
images. This problem was not the fault of the authors. The original graphics
were a bit course, and in the process of smoothing them, the print shop made
alterations that I failed to catch.
As a heads-up for you off-axis types, Dick Buchroeder is sending us a new
"Sheepsprinkler" article that will probably go into #13 or 14.
Also, please keep in mind that we are in serious need of basic articles on
mirror making, polishing, and testing - the nuts and bolts of telescope making
101. I know that most of you do not want the Journal to get too heavy into
those kinds of articles. However, we are light years from that and we should
al keep in mind that a journey of 1,000 miles starts with a single step.
Finally, I want you all to know the results of our reader survey in issue #10.
The vast majority of our readers want to see less space given to events and
more given to noteworthy instruments. Thus, where in the past we might have
given 6 to 8 pages to Stellafane or Riverside, we will now hit the highpoints
of the event on one or two pages and then try to get articles on the most
impressive telescopes shown there. We will still want to publish the list of
Merit award winners from each of the major gatherings. And, I would like to be
apprized of gathering that are approaching national status. Ten years ago, no
one outside the northwest knew anything about Table Mountain, and now its is
America's 3rd largest gathering. You folks are my eyes and ears. Keep me
posted for the edification of all.
Finally, be sure to check out the new ATM Journal website.

Bill
